Frequently Asked Questions

UMD can answer all the common questions about immigration. Find your answers below.

I have already got my H1B visa, why do I need to apply for immigration?

Answer: H1B is a working visa, not an immigration visa. Even if you had an H1B visa, there will be many reviewing processes that could be difficult. Also, the applicant must work in the same company in the following 6 years. If you change jobs, you need to reapply, which is very disadvantageous to the applicant, and apply for a green card after 6 years. If you want to obtain a U.S. green card early, you should try to apply for EB-2/EB-3, which is more beneficial to working and living in the United States in the future, as well as more job opportunities because U.S. companies are more willing to hire U.S. employees first.
